Microsoft’s new search engine, or decision engine as they call it in the advertising, Bing was launched last week with some fanfare. In addition, Microsoft has started an aggressive marketing campaign to get people familiar with it. I for one was excited about it and ready for it to launch as I’ve been reading more about it over the past few month. Originally called Kumo, the launch of Bing last week was somewhat of a surprised, but welcomed. The following are some of my thoughts about Bing, it’s search, and how it compares to Google.
In addition, I must say that I’ve now changed all of my default searches to Bing as I felt I was getting more of the Internet in a better way, than I was getting with Google and their controlled net. I look at Google now the way I looked at AOL ten years ago. If you want to search the full Internet you can’t do it on Google, as they have restricted, blocked, and penalized any site that they didn’t like. Read more

There has been so much hype on both of these new search engines that it’s getting to be too much. I’ve been hearing about them for almost a year now, and yet, we still wait. Both engines are expected to be released this month, but there has been no official announcement and both sites are still not functioning. To take a step back, let’s explain what they are, and why the hype.

I’ve been working on a project that has me trying to do bulk uploads on Google Local to get listed in tons of cities across the country. However, I was able to get one batch of a small quantity through, but ended up getting the next batches flagged, even though there were the exact same as the one that got through.
Now, I’ve read that getting flagged in their system is no big deal and to just make some adjustments and keep trying until you get your listing approved. Read more
Engines Can’t Search All Social Networks

I recently read a great article talking about the change that is inevitably going to come to the search industry. Right now the search engines are still only searching a small portion of the net, and with the abundance of information being generated everyday on social networks like Digg, Twitter, Facebook, and more, it’s impossible for them to keep up. This means that until they can figure out a way to search the information faster, and be able to know how to get certain data and not other sensitive data, then there is no way for them to be able to really search the net. Does Google Adsense Video Ads Make Money or Good Content?

Google Adsense announced earlier this year the beta of Google Video Ad Units. There are several opportunities available and you can find out more about those on Google’s Adsense Video site. However, I’ve been testing the Adsense for Video via Youtube on my fantasy sports blog to see if it would provide good content to keep visitors on my site longer, plus I’ve heard rumors that the eCPM is higher than their traditional ads. I’ve been running the test for a couple of weeks and have made some observations about it, as well as took it off the site for now until I can better position the content by putting it more in line with the content on the page. Recently I wanted to make a tag cloud into a page and I went exploring for a couple of options. I found several choices and try each of them, but each were not each to use and implement or required more plug-ins. I didn’t want to install any additional plug-ins, but still wanted a to have one easy code to copy and paste into my page template that would generate a tag cloud on a page. The following code is my own creation and seems to work great for Wordpress and makes a generated tag cloud page without needing to know any additional code, make any other templates, or install any other plug-ins.

Search engine optimization has become very popular again. It seemed to be the next big thing a few years ago, but most website owners were discouraged by the results and began buying traffic instead. The term for this practice is actually called ‘SEM’ or ‘Search Engine Marketing’, and it often gets confused with ‘SEO’ or ‘Search Engine Optimization’. The reason is that for many years SEO companies pushed clients into signing PPC contracts or pay-per-click links to generate traffic from search engines, and boasted this as their SEO strategy. Although it does produce results, it comes at a large cost, and tracking is often highly unreliable. This means that you are paying for clicks with no guarantee that they will generate any business- your account is still charged, regardless. Read more

Designing a website can be a very simple task, or it can be a very difficult task. The way to determine the process depends on the needs of the website owner and what goals they have for it. The reason a website difficulty depends on the needs of the client is because they will ultimately be the one who manages it and analyzes whether or not the site is performing to their expectations. This can sound simple enough but often a new website owner doesn’t know what they will need or want, so trying to calculate the future needs of the owner without them knowing what they are is quite a challenge. PS2 versus PS3, Is PS2 Still King?
Posted on June 17, 2008

Every day there are more commercials on TV for PS3 systems and games. I had just bought a new PS2 at the beginning of this year. My old one had finally gone down and I wanted a new system. I was thinking about getting the PS3 and was looking at the model as well as some others in the market. I was surprised to find that at the time there still wasn’t that good of a game selection, and my display unit is not HD so I figured there wasn’t much value in that particular aspect. My only real reason for getting the new PS3 was to play one or two games that are only available on the new unit, but given the rest of the cons that go with it, I wasn’t really that impressed with it and couldn’t see myself buying one yet.
